A large number of babies develop an abnormal head shape.

This happens when they are put on their backs to sleep in order to prevent SIDS. Babies often have a limited range of neck movements and prefer to lie with their heads facing one particular side. The pressure of the heavy head on one part of the skull at the back then causes flattening of the bone. In mild cases this results in a flat spot and in severe cases the ear and forehead become pushed forwards resulting in a very abnormally shaped head.

Most babies’ misshapen heads correct in time starting when they are able to roll over and sit up, but some do not and it is not possible to tell which ones will correct and which won’t.

The TETRA Baby Head Cradle prevents flat spots by training small babies to sleep with their heads facing in both directions. If flattening already exists, the Cradle helps to correct the problem by getting the baby to sleep facing the opposite direction.
